Bezel-less phones became a trend in 2017, and while manufacturers like Sony and HTC are shunning thin bezels, LG and Samsung are taking the world of bezel-less phones by storm.
While other manufacturers are thinking about how to make a frameless phone in the budget segment, LG is ready to attack the market with its new LG Q6. This is an affordable phone with a flagship display with an 18:9 aspect ratio.

Design
LG Q6 alpha resembles its older brother LG G6. There are exactly the same thin frames, and the body is rounded. But still the device has serious differences. For example, the speaker is located on the back side and there is no fingerprint sensor at all.
The microUSB connector is still used, rather than the progressive USB Type-C. On the left side there are volume buttons and two slots for nanoSIM/nanoSIM+microSD, on the right side there is a lock button. Fortunately, there is no hybrid memory card slot, so you can install two SIM cards and microSD at once.
The frame is made of 7000 series aluminum. The back cover is made of glossy plastic, which is a so-so solution. The plastic is not easily soiled, but is easily scratched.
Ergonomics
The assembly of the LG Q6 alpha evokes only positive emotions. It is clear that the company spared no resources. There are no cracks or squeaks. The volume and lock keys do not dangle or wobble. In addition, the oleophobic coating is similar to flagships; fingerprints are easily erased from both the screen and the lid. The phone has protection class MD-810, but no moisture protection.
The smartphone feels a little cooler in your hand than when you look at it from a monitor screen. At first, for a long time I could not believe that I was holding a device with a 5.5′-inch screen diagonal, since in my hands it fits like a 5-inch phone. It is convenient to operate with one hand.
Screen
The LG Q6 display left positive emotions. The IPS screen diagonal is 5.5 inches, aspect ratio 18:9 (FullVision) and FullHD+ resolution.
The screen is bright and can be easily seen in the sun. Color rendition is close to ideal, colors are natural and not oversaturated. The viewing angles are maximum, the backlight is evenly distributed.
This is the most top-end screen among state employees that I have seen. Thanks to such thin frames, the user experience changes. The screen area makes it possible to comfortably use two applications at once in dual mode.
The display gives you a new experience when watching movies, photos or videos. It seems that you are holding only the screen in your hands.
At night, with minimal brightness, the eyes do not feel discomfort. But if suddenly you don’t like using it in the dark, you can turn on the reading mode.
As a result, the LG Q6 alpha display showed its best side, even after a week of use I want to exclaim with pleasure.
Camera
The main camera of the LG Q6 has one 13 megapixel module. Photos with sufficient light turn out great, but if suddenly there is not enough light, the quality will drop a little and noise will appear. This is normal for smartphone cameras in the category up to 20,000 rubles.
LG engineers tried to make a good camera application and they succeeded. This is one of the most convenient camera apps compared to other budget Android devices.
Yes, there are no manual settings, but the Auto mode works stably, showing good results in most scenes. The application has been developed specifically for social networks. There is a context menu right in the camera for publishing captured images on social networks.
The front camera surprised me with its correct color reproduction and quality of detail. You can enable wide-angle camera mode. The application also allows you to make a collage from several photos or videos at once.
Software
LG Q6 alpha runs on Android 7.1.1 with the proprietary LG UX 6.0 shell. The Korean company did not take the path of cluttering the firmware with its utilities, which in my opinion is a good decision.
This device contains functions inherent to LG, such as: KnockCode - unlocking the screen by tapping on the screen, unlocking the phone with the front camera. I was also pleased with the utility battery care, the phone itself gives tips on how to properly charge the phone and handle the battery. Moreover, these tips are really useful and are provided with detailed explanations.
Among the pre-installed applications, I can highlight Smart Doctor, which monitors the phone’s memory and optimizes it. Also LG SmartWorld, where you can find themes, fonts, and various bonuses.
In the settings you can replace the control keys. For example, add a button to quickly switch between SIM cards or a screenshot button.
Performance and runtime
LG Q6 alpha received an 8-core Snapdragon 435 processor with a frequency of 1.4 GHz and an Adreno 505 video accelerator. The amount of RAM is only 2 GB, but this was enough for LG engineers to make the phone work quickly.
The phone copes with simple tasks one hundred percent. Freezes, if they occur, are extremely rare. But in every barrel of honey there is a fly in the ointment, sometimes the main screen (launcher) randomly reboots and it’s not at all clear why this happens. There was always enough RAM, so I leave this to the conscience of the programmers.
Benchmark results:
I don’t want to talk too much about games in this review, since the Snapdragon 435 processor is weak for demanding games, but you can play simple arcade and casual games with pleasure. I preferred the game Colin McRae Rally, the game was very smooth, and combined with the FullVision display, let me say that it was a wonderful feeling of immersion in the game.
Autonomy.
Another point where LG did not lose face. The LG Q6 has a 3000mAh battery. Even though there is a FullHD+ display, the phone can last a day and a half on average.
I tested the phone in its usual mode - constantly active 4G, geolocation, social networks and instant messengers. And all this at 75% brightness. And the battery is protected from damage and fire, LG is making a nod to Samsung smartphones. 😉
Communication and sound
LG Q6 supports all major communication standards, including 4G Cat 6, which means mobile Internet speeds can reach up to 300 Mbps. The rest is all standard.
The smartphone maintains a stable connection with Wi-Fi points. The quality of the connection with 4G and 3G is also not in question.
The main speaker in the LG Q6 is located at the back and here I immediately want to ask the question - “what is the volume on the table?” I can confidently say that even if the phone is lying on the table, you will hear a notification or a call. The speaker is very loud. You can also listen to music through it; you will not hear any serious distortion during the sound.
The volume through the headphones is decent, the quality is average. This is a common picture for the Snapdragon 435 chipset.
Conclusion
LG Q6 can easily be called the king of budget devices at the moment. Looking at the competitors, you understand that they will not provide the same user experience that the LG Q6 alpha provides.
Let's remember the FullVision FullHD+ display and wonderful cameras for a budget employee. I advise you to think about buying this smartphone. This is one of the best solutions in its price segment.

LG has finally officially released three new smartphones at once: Q6, Q6 Plus and Q6a. All three versions have essentially become highly simplified models of the flagship LG G6. Here are all the other details about the new products, their key parameters, capabilities and prices.
Specifications of LG Q6, Q6 Plus and Q6a
All LG Q6 models are equipped with 5.5-inch displays with Full HD resolution of 2160x1080 pixels and a pixel density of 442 ppi. The screens of these phones are slightly curved towards the sides, and the edges themselves are also slightly curved. LG uses a metal frame (7000 series aluminum) around the perimeter of the LG Q6 phones. There are frames around the display, but they are not too large.
LG Q6, Q6 Plus and Q6a are powered by Snapdragon 435 processor. LG Q6 Plus has 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of flash memory. Q6 received 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of flash memory. The youngest version of the LG Q6a has only 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage.

The Korean company has not confirmed the official prices for LG Q6 series phones. These smartphones will be available in Asia in August 2017. Later, the Q6 series will also arrive in other markets such as Europe, Latin America and North America.
